Adding a wordpress Gallery
- Written by Ken McMahon
A Wordpress gallery displays a page of thumbnails. Clicking on a thumbnail will open a page with a full-size version of the image. If you have Lightbox or some other kind of display plug-in installed, the gallery images can be displayed and navigated in a full-screen viewer.
To add a gallery to your page or post first open it for editing by selecting All Pages or All posts from the Dashboard and then clicking the title of the page or post you want to edit. Position the cursor where you want to add the gallery and click the Add Media button at the top of the Edit panel.
In the Insert Media panel click the Create Gallery link on the left. Next, select the images you want to include in the gallery by clicking on their thumbnails - selected images are indicated with a blue check mark in the top right corner. If you can't see the images you want in the Media library you'll need to upload them, see adding images to the media library if you're not sure how to do that.
When you've selected all the images you want, click the Create a new gallery button at the bottom right of the screen and you'll see your selected images in the Edit Gallery page where you can drag and drop to reorder them and add captions.
Usually, you'll want to choose Link to Attachment page in the Gallery Settings pane on the right. This links each thumbnail in the gallery to a new page showing the full-size image. Depending on your theme other information, for example, the caption, description and navigation for other images in the gallery may also be shown. Or images may be displayed using a lightbox plug-in. Gallery Settings also lets you specify the number of columns and image size.
When you're ready click the Insert gallery button at the bottom right of the screen to add the gallery to your page. Don't forget to click Publish (if it's a new post/page) or update (if you're editing an existing post/page to save your changes.
